Agreement to these Terms of Use

This is the official National Trust Peak District website. By using or registering with this site, you agree to abide by these terms of use, the privacy policy and any other guidelines published on this site from time to time. Site users are also governed by this website's terms and conditions.

While we welcome your participation with interactive features on this site, we will be moderating any comments, posts or content that you chose to upload, submit or publish to this site. Due to the nature of our organisation we will be reactively moderating all posts, comments, or content uploaded to this site. This means that once your content has been published, if another user reports your content as not in accordance with these terms of use, we can remove any of your content without further notice to you.

By choosing to participate in our interactive features you agree to abide by these terms of use and the following participants' rules.

Participants' rules

You must follow these rules when participating in any interactive feature on the National Trust Peak District site:

  • Your contributions must be civil, polite and tasteful. This creates an enjoyable space for all users.
  • No disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour, unlawful or objectionable content. This includes any material which might be defamatory, offensive, infringing, obscene, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, blasphemous, indecent or otherwise unlawful or objectionable. It also includes any material which is aggressive, argumentative or likely to be construed as bullying.
  • No spamming or repetition. Please don't contribute off-topic material in subject-specific threads or areas.
  • No advertising, marketing or other commercial messages or content.
  • No impersonation of other users or public figures.
  • No inappropriate user names. This includes anything vulgar or offensive.
  • You may not refer to other websites, or post urls (website addresses).
  • You may not use multiple logins.
  • Please be patient as users of all ages, backgrounds and abilities may be taking part in the community. We want to create a space that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy using.
  • Use plain English and not slang in your posts. Use language that everyone can understand.
  • No personal information or contact details (e.g. phone numbers, email addresses, or postal addresses) are to be published on this site.
  • We do not tolerate plagiarism. If you do submit any content that is not your own, you will acknowledge that you have breached this agreement.
  • If you have a complaint or general query about the National Trust, please do not use our posts to ask it. We have a helpful friendly team who will be able to help you – contact them here.

The views expressed in any user published comments or content are those of members of the public and are not necessarily those of the National Trust.

If you breach these rules, you will be sent an email informing you why your contribution was reported as inappropriate and has been edited or removed. This email may include a warning that continuing to break the rules may result in action being taken against your account.

If the breach is serious or persistent, we may suspend or block your account without warning.

The National Trust reserves the right to delete any contribution, or take action against any account, at any time, for any reason.

Ownership

This site, including its trade marks, logos, design, text and graphics, is owned by and remains the property of the National Trust.

Use of materials

Where we have indicated that you may download materials from this site, you may only download and use them as indicated, or to raise awareness about the National Trust. You may not download or use any element of this site for personal gain or commercial purposes without written notification to The National Trust.

You may not copy, transmit, store or disseminate any element of this site, unless we have clearly indicated. You may not alter, modify, adapt, reverse engineer, disassemble or create derivative works of any software contained on this site.

Registration and passwords

If you register with us and are asked to provide a password, you agree:

  • to keep your password secure and confidential and not allow anyone else to use your email address or password to access this site
  • not to do anything which would assist anyone who is not a registered user to gain access to any registration area of this site
  • not to create additional registration accounts for the purpose of abusing the functionality of the site, or other users, or to seek to pass yourself off as another user

Your contributions

If you submit any material to us, you agree to grant the National Trust a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use your contribution in all media. This includes the right to copy, edit and publish the material. If you do not want to grant these rights, please do not submit your contribution to us.

By submitting your contribution you acknowledge and confirm that all models used in your contribution have provided consent to have their images published on the www.nationaltrust.org.uk/peakdistrict website and to be used in further publications both online and offline in printed material.

You warrant that the materials you submit are original and that you have the right to grant the above licence.

Responsibility for use

To the extent permitted at law, the National Trust does not accept responsibility or liability for any loss or damage that may occur in connection with this site, including any interruption or delays.

To the extent permitted at law, we do not accept any responsibility or liability for any infection by virus or other contamination resulting from your use of this site.

All software provided by third parties (such as Acrobat Reader) is the sole responsibility of that third party.

The National Trust is not responsible for the content of any third party sites linked to or from this site.

If you are under 18 - please get your parent's or guardian's consent before using any interactive feature of this site (e.g. uploading content, or contributing to blog posts). Never reveal any personal information about yourself or anyone else (e.g. your telephone number, home address or email address).

Unlawful use

You may only use this site for lawful purposes and you may not inhibit the use and enjoyment of this site by any third party. You agree to abide by all applicable laws, regulations and codes of conduct and to be solely responsible for all things arising from your use of this site. You may not submit, publish, post, distribute or transmit any defamatory, offensive, infringing, obscene, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, blasphemous, indecent or otherwise unlawful or objectionable material or information.

Actions for unauthorised use

If the National Trust considers, in its sole discretion, that you have breached these terms of use or other users have reported that you have demonstrated inappropriate conduct in your use of this site, we reserve the right to: remove any material which you have posted to this site; discontinue your registration to this site or any related service; and/or take other measures, including terminating, suspending or restricting your use of this site. Any action that we take is without prejudice to any of our accrued rights.

Governing law

These terms of use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English Law and you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
